Mike's Harley

what say we put on a tune...

This is my bike, a 1998 FXSTC Softail Custom (HDI).  Well actually this is a picture of the base model from the '98 US sales brochure, but mine looked exactly the same for a very short period of time (click on the image to see what my bike looks like now).  Harley's "standard" back then was the carbureted 80 cubic inch Evolution Engine, which is what this has. I bought my bike new while overseas in Japan and the HDI stands for "Harley Davidson International", a designation for Harley's sold outside of the continental United States.  The only real differences between the American and the International versions of HD are the KMH speedo, a front headlamp "cut" for riding on the left and overlaid capacity/specification stickers written in the language of the selling country.  I bought my bike at Balcom Harley Davidson in Hiroshima (yes, Hiroshima - how cool is that) while serving at MCAS Iwakuni from 1996-1998.  I am not much of a group rider, nor am I a "club" type of person, and I don't have nearly enough money to be a "RUB".  No, I just like my motorcycle. There is something about owning a Harley that is, at it's core, patriotic (especially when you get to bring one home from Japan).  However, like the saying goes, "If I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand anyway" so I'll just shut up.

Just put on new rubber; "Metzler's".  Nice.
